The nineteenth version of the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival, to be held in Hyderabad from November 6 to 10, can pay homage to the theatre doyen’s spouse Begum Razia Baig, who handed in March this 12 months. “She chaired the pageant she co-founded for 18 years. This 12 months’s pageant is women-centric in its theme and we pay an ode to motherhood,” says actor-theatre character Mohammad Ali Baig, son of Begum Razia and the curator of the pageant.

The five-day fest at Taramati Baradari Cultural Advanced will current performances, workshops and masterclasses by actors, poets, writers and administrators. The pageant will open with actor Ashish Vidyarthi’s Hindi/English stand-up comedy act Vitthal Kaanya, named after the favored character he portrayed within the Hindi movie Vaastav. Baig explains, “Our mandate is to current a ‘clear’ stand-up comedy present that doesn’t resort to foul language or offend any group within the viewers.” 

On the upcoming pageant, audiences can look ahead to satire, mature romance and dance theatre. Whereas Ila Arun and KK Raina characteristic in Miracle on Matunga Avenue, an adaptation of playwright Tom Dudzick’s comedy-drama Miracle on South Division Avenue, the UK group Wright and Grainger will carry out Helios, an English play that focuses on a modern-day fable, impressed by an historic Greek story. The play will likely be in affiliation with the British Council.

“Nadira Babbar’s play Farida, which she has written and directed, is a romance set in Kashmir,” informs Baig, concerning the presentation by Mumbai-based Ejkute Theatre Group.

Bengaluru-based Praveen Kumar of Chithkala College of Dance will current a dance theatre efficiency titled Thyagaraja Hruth Sadhana. ACT 24 theatre group’s Hindi play Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai is impressed by Arbuzov’s Russian play Do You Flip Somersaults? 

The pageant will come to an in depth with Mystical Perfume – An Ode to Motherhood, an English/Urdu poetry session that includes classical singer and musician Zila Khan in addition to Mohammad Ali Baig and Dolly Thakore performing and reciting poems of well-known Indian and worldwide poets corresponding to Ali Sardar Jafri, Edgar Allan Poe and Rudyard Kipling.
