NASA's Rover Captures 'Googly Eye' Eclipse On Mars - Watch

Martain moon Phobos passing throughout Solar

Perseverance rover, presently roaming the purple, rocky floor of Mars, captured a video of the partial eclipse within the ambiance as Phobos crossed in entrance of the Solar, giving the phantasm of what NASA known as ‘googly eye’. The potato-shaped Martian moon was passing immediately between the Solar and some extent on the floor of Mars, obscuring a big a part of the Solar’s disc when it was clicked by Perseverance’s Mastcam-Z digicam on its 1,285th day (September 30) on the Pink Planet.

“Ever really feel like somebody’s watching you? That is how I felt once I noticed this transit of the Martian moon Phobos! The pupil on this “googly eye” is the potato-shaped moon, and the iris is our Solar,” the X (previously Twitter) deal with of Perseverance captioned the intriguing video.

Since touchdown at Mars’ Jezero Crater in February 2021, Perseverance has captured a number of Phobos transits. Curiosity captured a video in 2019 whereas Alternative captured a picture in 2004.

About Phobos

Phobos was found in 1877 by Asaph Corridor who named it based mostly on the mythological sons of Ares, the Greek counterpart of the Roman god, Mars. Phobos means concern and is the brother of Deimos.

Phobos is bigger than Deimos, measuring 27 by 22 by 18 kilometres in diameter. It orbits Mars 3 times a day and is so near the planet’s floor that in some areas on Mars it can not at all times be seen.

Phobos’ proximity to Mars means it’s set on a collision course with the Pink Planet. It’s nearing Mars at a charge of six toes (1.8 meters) each hundred years which suggests it’ll both crash into Mars in 50 million years or break up into a hoop.

Signal of life on Mars

In July this 12 months, the rover found an intriguing rock pattern, nicknamed “Cheyava Falls,” which incorporates natural molecules and buildings that would have been shaped by microbial life.

”The rock displays chemical signatures and buildings that would presumably have been shaped by life billions of years in the past when the world being explored by the rover contained working water,” NASA mentioned on the time.
