The Cyber Crime Wing of Better Chennai Metropolis Police has booked a case towards Kantharaj, a commentator, for his interview on a YouTube channel during which he alleged that a number of actresses in Tamil movie business had ‘made changes’ with film-makers to get roles in films. The case was registered following a criticism from actor Rohini to the Metropolis Police Commissioner A. Arun.

Ms. Rohini is the president of the gender sensitisation and inside complaints committee (ICC) of South Indian Artists’ Affiliation (SIAA).

In her criticism, which was lodged on Friday (September 13, 2024,) she stated Kantharaj had demeaned girls along with his obscene phrases. Stating that the interview had proven the ladies within the movie business in a poor gentle, she sought that the police register a legal criticism towards Kantharaj and provoke steps to take away the video from YouTube.

The criticism was forwaded to the Cyber Crime Wing for additional motion, and a case was registered towards Kantharaj below Sections 296 (Obscene Acts) 75(1)(iv) (Making Sexually Colored Remarks) 79(Phrase, gesture, or act supposed to insult the modesty of a lady), 352 (Intentional insult with intent to impress breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Part 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene materials in digital kind) of the Data Know-how Act.
